At about 3 a.m. on Saturday (Sunday morning) we finished putting up the forms. Since this is the first time we've done this, even though we are well read up on this project, there's a lot of trial and error.
We had to take the forms down a few times and fix edges. We also spent a good 5-6 hours just going around adding posts for strength and to help level it out. I think we were both delirious by the time we fell asleep. But we awoke this morning excited to finish up the prep and get our pour on!
Here's a few pics of what we accomplished this weekend.
1. Knockouts for where the faucet, water filter and sprayer will go in the counter top. Elevate the sink form so that the concrete can be poured around the cut-out for the sink.
2. Add the lip so that when we pour the concrete it will flow over the edge of the plywood support.
3. Level EVERYTHING!
4. Put in the rebar and wire for stronger support in the pour.
5. POUR, baby POUR!!!
7. Pack it in good to get all around the rebar and wire mesh.
8. Smooth out the top and check for any leaks.
9. Wait about 45 minutes and then pop off the forms around the edge.
10. Smooth the edges out and let dry.
Just to be completely transparent, this is all we accomplished since it was getting pretty late and we all had to work early on Monday. For this reason we opted to just pour the 1 small section in order to work out any kinks, etc. before we pour the rest of the main piece. All that to say, we are far from finished. Hopefully we can tackle that this weekend and I'll post pics of that to come.
